The US Economic Development Administration awarded Dakota State University a grant worth $2,929,103 to help fund a project in Lake County.

The grant was awarded on May 16, 2019. The EDA describes the grant as follows:

"This EDA investment supports Dakota State University with the purchase of equipment for a high-speed research network system to support the processing, storage, separation, security and high volume transmission of data. Completion of the project will provide critical infrastructure for skills-training centers that address the hiring needs of the local business community in a designated Opportunity Zone, which will promote job growth and business expansion to support the region's efforts to diversify its economy."
