The Brookings Street Department will be sealing streets with oil and rock starting Monday, August 1st, 2022 (weather permitting). Streets and avenues to be sealed will include areas east of 17th Avenue to 22nd Avenue from 6th Street to Derdall Drive, the Brookings Municipal Utilities parking lot, and areas south of 1st Street South to 8th Street South including 2nd Street South, starting by Western Avenue and moving east to Medary Avenue. More information and a map of all areas to be sealed can be found on the City’s website at https://www.cityofbrookings-sd.gov/projects
Residents who live in areas scheduled for seal coating should not park anything (vehicles, trailers, boats, RV’s, implements etc.) on their street from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., until their street has been covered with rock. Vehicles will be towed at owner’s expense. Also, the City is asking that residents do not water lawns or drain sump pumps onto the streets during seal coating. Streets need to be dry in order for the seal coat to adhere.
Motorists are encouraged to drive slowly, be cautious of equipment, trucks and employees. Bicyclists and motorcyclists should exercise extreme caution when using these streets. Residents are encouraged to utilize alternate routes during this time to avoid delays.
