PRESS RELEASE: City of Brookings Hires Next Public Works Director

Brookings, SD – The City of Brookings is happy to announce John Thompson will start on September 6th as the next City of Brookings Public Works Director. John currently lives in Clovis, California, and has been with the County of Fresno California for the past fifteen (15) years and most recently as the Assistant County Administrative Officer and formally the Assistant Public Works Director.  

“I am excited and honored to be selected as the Public Works Director for the City of Brookings and look forward to joining the team and serving the needs of the Brookings community. My wife and I are originally from the area and love the culture and community feel.  Bringing our Dreams home,” John Thompson said. 

The City of Brookings began the search for the next Public Works director a year ago. The process was expanded multiple times to assure the proper candidate fit for the organization and community. The City Manager Paul Briseno commented, “We are excited to welcome John Thompson and his family to the Brookings Community.  John’s vast experience in Public Works and government will assist in progressing the current efforts of staff, organization, and City Council.  Brookings has a great team of dedicated employees and John will have the opportunities to provide a significant impact through his leadership.” Throughout the search, the City received many qualified applicants from across the nation. The hiring committee focused on the City’s core, organization, and community needs. 

The first few months of John Thompson’s employment will be focused on establishing relationships and understanding the organization/community. His phone information is forthcoming.
