Lake Poinsett ranked 12th among cities in South Dakota by annual earnings per resident, according to data obtained from the U.S. Census Bureau.

The median income of Lake Poinsett residents was $46,023 per year, adjusted for inflation. It had 218 households with a population of 520.

The city with the highest median resident income in the state was Broadland with $88,750 per year after adjusting for inflation – $42,727 more than Lake Poinsett. It had 13 households with a population of 26.

The city with the lowest median resident income in the state was Wounded Knee with $5,724 per year after adjusting for inflation – $40,299 less than Lake Poinsett. It had 72 households with a population of 470.
