PRESS RELEASE: City of Brookings launches surveys as part of Economic Development Master Plan

The City of Brookings has released two surveys and is requesting participation from the public to gather information as part of the Brookings Economic Development Master Plan project. The project will provide strategic direction for the City by identifying key opportunities for future growth and partnerships and also recommend place-based development strategies for the City’s future development. Other goals include outlining a framework for supporting business and investment attraction as well as small business development and entrepreneurship among key target sectors. It will also identify new and innovative changes to existing economic development incentive programs to promote business growth.

Mayor Ope Niemeyer and Deputy Mayor Nick Wendell said input is useful during the project stating, “surveys are a great way for us to gather feedback from a wide variety of sources and perspectives. We’re hoping members of our community – representing businesses large and small – will complete the survey and ensure planning efforts are well-aligned with our needs. A comprehensive, progressive economic development plan is one that includes everybody and prepares the city and region for the future.”

The City is asking all residents to participate if they are able. Information gathered from the Community Survey (for residents), and Business Survey (for business owners) will be used to inform and craft the final Economic Development Master Plan. Each survey will take about five minutes to complete and will be available online through the month of June. To participate, visit: www.cityofbrookings-sd.gov/EconDevSurvey
