The Brookings Regional Landfill is encouraging Hamlin, Deuel, Kingsbury, Lake, Brookings, and Moody County residents to dispose of unwanted household hazardous waste (HHW) in a safe and environmentally responsible way at its Household Hazardous Waste event on Saturday, August 27th at the Swiftel Center south parking lot, from 8 a.m. to noon.
The event is free with a recommended donation of a non-perishable food item(s) which will be donated to the Brookings Food Pantry.
Program Overview
Improperly discarded toxic, flammable or otherwise hazardous materials can be a threat to people, animals and the environment. Residents should not dispose of hazardous items in the trash, nor should they dispose of materials into sinks, the ground, or storm drains – doing so may pollute the environment and drinking water.
The Brookings Solid Waste Division provides the Household Hazardous Waste Event as an opportunity for residents in the region to conveniently and responsibly dispose of their household hazardous waste.
