PRESS RELEASE: Asphalt Paving Project Update

The City of Brookings asphalt paving project with Bowes Construction, Inc. is continuing. On Monday September 26 the next phase of milling will begin and will last 2-3 days. The streets being milled will be temporarily closed during the milling process and then reopened until they are ready to be paved, at which time they will again be closed 1-2 days. Bowes plans to be working on the following streets and alleys during the September 26-28 timeframe:

  • 2nd Street from Medary Avenue to 15th Avenue
  • 3rd Street from 17th Avenue to 22nd Avenue
  • Alley connecting 8th Avenue and 9th Avenue between 3rd Street and 4th Street
  • Alley connecting 7th Avenue and 8th Avenue between 8th Street and 9th Street
The City’s contractor is asking that vehicles do not park on these streets during the milling and paving work and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes during construction.  Vehicles that are parked on the street during the milling and paving construction will be subject to towing at the property owner’s expense.

We would like to remind the public to be cautious when driving or walking through the project area, especially around work areas under construction.  We appreciate everyone’s patience during the project.

Questions may be directed to Bowes Construction at 605-693-3557 or the City Engineering Office at 605-692-6629.
