Northern State University Bands to Present ‘new Beginnings’ Concert on Nov. 20

Northern State University Bands will present a concert, titled “New Beginnings,” at 3 p.m. Nov. 20 in the Johnson Fine Arts Center Jewett Theater. 

The concert will feature the NSU Symphonic Band and Concert Band and will introduce new conductors for both. Dr. Audrey Miller is the new Symphonic Band conductor, and Dr. Travis Netzer is the new Concert Band conductor.

The Symphonic Band will perform pieces including “Handel in the Strand,” by Percy Grainger, arranged by John Philip Sousa; “Pathways,” by Danielle Fisher; “Second Suite in F,” by Gustav Holst; and “Of Our New Day Begun,” by Omar Thomas. 

The Concert Band will perform pieces including “The Washington Post March,” by Sousa; “Encanto,” by Robert W. Smith; “The Clapping Song,” by Randall D. Standridge; and “The Pines of Rome,” by Ottorino Respighi, arranged by James Curnow.” 

All tickets are general admission and will be available at the door. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and NSU faculty/staff. Students will be admitted for free. Payment will be cash or check only; debit or credit cards will not be accepted. There will be no advance or online ticket sales. 

The concert will also be livestreamed at the NSU Music Department Facebook page.
