The Brookings Human Rights Commission will host the fourth annual Brookings Juneteenth Celebration on Saturday, June 17, at Pioneer Park in Brookings from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The event commemorates the important U.S. milestone of the emancipation of enslaved Black people from slavery, which occurred on June 19, 1865.
All community members — inclusive of race, ethnicity and all other identities — are welcome at the Brookings Juneteenth Celebration. There is no cost to attend, nor is registration required. The event will feature:
- Kids’ activities, including bubbles and water play.
- Entertainment, including a drum circle, fashion show, song and dance.
- Food trucks and local artisans with delicacies for sale.
- Vendors, including Black-owned businesses and entrepreneurs.
