Disability Awareness Committee seeks nominations for A.B.L.E. and EMPOWER awards

The Brookings Disability Awareness Committee is accepting nominations for the 2023 EMPOWER Award and A.B.L.E. Award (Ability, Belief, Leadership and Equality to Achieve Access for All). The nomination deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, July 21. 

The EMPOWER Award is designed to recognize the outstanding commitment of a business in employing and empowering disabled individuals. Highlighting the efforts of an outstanding business may motivate others to increase opportunities to hire disabled individuals. Businesses must be within the city of Brookings.

The A.B.L.E. Award is designed to recognize the outstanding commitment of a business or public entity in fulfilling the goals of the Americans with Disabilities Act. Highlighting the efforts of an outstanding business or entity may motivate others to provide improved accessibility to goods and services. Businesses must be within the city of Brookings.

All nominations will be considered and reviewed by the Brookings Disability Awareness Committee. When the 2023 award recipients have been selected, the Committee will notify them and the public. The winners will be recognized at the Mayor’s Holiday Party and Awards event in early December.
