On May 12, 2025, Rep. Johnson emphasized the importance of work requirements within the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). He stated that "Congress must strengthen work requirements to ensure the SNAP program helps those truly in need. Work is the surest pathway out of poverty."
The following day, May 13, 2025, he expressed gratitude towards law enforcement during National Police Week. He tweeted his appreciation for their service by saying "Happy National Police Week! I’m grateful for the men and women who keep our communities safe. This week and every week, remember to thank our police officers for their dedication and bravery in protecting South Dakota."
Later on May 13, 2025, Rep. Johnson reiterated his stance on poverty alleviation through education and employment by stating that "You cannot escape poverty without some combination of work and education."
Dusty Johnson was born in Pierre, South Dakota in 1976 and resides in Mitchell. He graduated from the University of South Dakota with a BA in 1999.
