U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune appeared on Fox News Radio with Guy Benson to discuss key issues, including border security, fiscal policies, and Republican priorities in budget reconciliation.
Addressing the situation at the southern border, Thune emphasized the need for resources to secure it. He stated, "[Y]ou can’t get around what's happening within L.A. today and what’s happened at the border for the last four years. I mean, they are inextricably linked." Thune highlighted President Biden's efforts towards a secure border but attributed past challenges to "very lax enforcement of laws," describing it as a "Biden border crisis."
Thune also touched upon restoring fiscal sanity by implementing pro-growth tax and energy policies that he believes will generate more economic growth than projected by traditional models like those of the CBO. He noted that combining these policies with spending reductions could reduce deficits significantly.
Regarding Republicans' priorities in budget reconciliation, Thune outlined several focus areas: securing the border with long-term investments, modernizing military capabilities, maintaining low taxes to avoid an impending increase, and promoting American energy dominance. He underscored a commitment to reducing mandatory government spending while working toward consensus within the Senate.
