U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune appeared on Fox News with Martha MacCallum to discuss key legislative priorities for Senate Republicans. Thune highlighted the importance of passing what he referred to as the "Big, Beautiful Bill," which aims to prevent a $4 trillion tax increase by the end of the year.
Thune emphasized that the bill would provide significant tax relief for middle-income families, stating, “It ends its tax on, as the president has indicated, tax on tips, tax on overtime, lowers taxes on Social Security recipients.” He also mentioned an increase in the child tax credit and underscored efforts to secure the border and modernize the military.
The legislation is also touted for its fiscal responsibility. Thune noted it includes "the biggest spending reduction in history" and aims to generate economic growth through pro-growth policies. “This [bill] will reduce the deficit, not increase it,” he said.
Regarding U.S. negotiations with Iran over its nuclear program, Thune expressed hope that Iran would choose a diplomatic resolution. He stated, “I think the Iranians ought to take the president up on [a deal].” Thune also stressed that any agreement must ensure Iran does not possess a nuclear weapon.
The interview covered various topics reflecting Republican priorities ahead of upcoming legislative sessions.
