U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune appeared on Fox News with Sean Hannity to discuss several pressing issues, including tax priorities, Medicaid reforms, and Iran's nuclear program.
Regarding tax priorities, Thune emphasized the focus on aiding working Americans. He stated, "I think for the most part, this is designed to help working Americans, people who are getting up every day, going to work – and this gives them some relief." Thune highlighted the permanence of the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act rates and other benefits as key elements aimed at providing tax relief for middle-income families.
Thune also addressed the need for Medicaid reforms by targeting waste and abuse. He remarked, "We want to make sure that we are rooting out the Biden-era waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicaid program." He clarified that proposed changes would not cut Medicaid but slow its growth rate to ensure sustainability.
On foreign policy matters, Thune spoke about Iran's nuclear ambitions. He expressed concern over Iran's actions in the region and stressed the importance of ending their nuclear program. "I mean, they have menaced that region and the world now for 50 years," he said. Thune suggested that President Trump is well-positioned to address this issue through diplomacy or support for Israel.
