U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune recently appeared on The Brian Kilmeade Show on Fox Radio, where he discussed several pressing issues including Medicaid, budget reconciliation, and international relations.

Thune addressed the topic of Medicaid by clarifying that while the program's growth rate is being slowed, it is not being cut. He stated, “[W]e’re not cutting [Medicaid], we’re just slowing the rate of growth. It’s going to increase year-over-year for the next 10 years; it’s just not going to grow at as fast a rate.” He emphasized the need to eliminate what he described as "Biden-era waste, fraud, and abuse" within the program.

Regarding budget reconciliation, Thune highlighted ongoing efforts to reach consensus in Congress. “We’re getting suggestions and input and feedback,” he said, emphasizing the importance of achieving a positive outcome for the country despite potential compromises.

On government efficiency, Thune criticized Democrats for expanding government programs and underscored his commitment to reducing waste. “[W]hen Democrats have power, they grow government,” he noted. He stressed the importance of creating a more efficient federal government.

Thune also spoke about tax priorities and criticized entities like the Congressional Budget Office for their predictions related to tax cuts. He argued that reducing taxes leads to increased investment and ultimately higher government revenue.

The conversation turned international when Thune commented on Iran’s nuclear program. He expressed hope that Iran would eventually negotiate an end to its nuclear ambitions due to pressure from Israeli actions. “I think [Khomeini is] very defiant,” Thune remarked, suggesting that continued pressure might lead Iran back to negotiations.

On domestic policy concerning military authority, Thune defended President Trump's powers under the War Powers Act amid Democratic opposition. He stated that Trump has significant latitude as commander-in-chief during national crises involving American troops.

Finally, Thune affirmed America's role on the global stage with particular emphasis on its relationship with Israel. “It’s been very clear from the outset that Iran sees – and Prime Minister Netanyahu has said this – the only thing standing between Iran and the United States is Israel,” he concluded.
