U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune participated in an interview on Breitbart News Saturday with Matt Boyle, discussing various Republican priorities and legislative goals.

Thune emphasized the importance of fulfilling the president's agenda, which includes securing the border and investing in infrastructure. He stated, "[T]his is the fulfillment of the president’s agenda. This is what he ran on. This is what the people voted for." He highlighted goals such as modernizing the military, extending tax relief to middle-income Americans, and reducing spending to achieve a sustainable fiscal path.

Discussing energy policy, Thune stressed the aim of achieving American energy dominance. He said, "[W]e want America not only to be energy independent but to be energy dominant," advocating for policies that facilitate rather than hinder energy development.

Regarding Medicaid, Thune addressed concerns about program sustainability while ensuring beneficiaries are not harmed. He remarked, "We are continuing to grow Medicaid; we’re just growing at a slower rate than what has been allowed for under existing law."

Thune also commented on U.S. involvement in Iran, acknowledging Israel's efforts against Iranian missile capabilities and emphasizing the need to prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons. He expressed support for negotiations or other necessary actions by stating, "Iran just can’t have nuclear weapons."

Thune expressed confidence in passing significant legislation by July 4 despite procedural complexities in the Senate: “We have a more complicated process in the Senate...but as we head into this next week, I’m fully confident we’re going to be ready to roll.”

The conversation touched on various issues reflecting Republican priorities under current leadership and ongoing legislative processes.
