U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune addressed the Senate floor today, announcing the passage of a significant legislative bill aimed at extending tax relief for Americans. Thune noted that this initiative was more than a year in the making, involving collaboration among Republican senators and staff.

"Mr. President, it’s been a long road to get to today," Thune stated. He emphasized that voters provided Republicans with an opportunity to focus on their legislative goals since taking office in January.

The newly passed legislation is designed to permanently extend tax relief, which Thune believes will drive economic growth and create jobs for American workers. Additionally, he highlighted that the bill aims to rebuild the military, secure borders, unleash American energy, and reduce waste in federal programs.

Thune expressed gratitude towards committee members and staff who contributed significantly to drafting the bill. "None of us would be where we are without our staffs," he remarked, acknowledging their hard work during late nights and early mornings.

He also extended his thanks to those who ensured smooth operations on the Senate floor during the bill's consideration over the weekend. This included cloakroom staff, clerks, doorkeepers, Capitol Police, and pages.

Looking ahead, Thune expressed optimism about the House taking up and passing what he termed "historic legislation" before sending it to the president's desk for approval.
