U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune addressed the Senate floor, outlining the Republican Party's recent legislative achievements and commitments to the American people. Thune emphasized that these efforts are in line with promises made during last year's elections.

"Mr. President, in the runup to last year’s elections, Republicans made some promises to the American people," Thune stated. He highlighted that these promises included turning away from past failures, supporting working families, boosting the economy, and enhancing national security.

Thune underscored the importance of tax relief for Americans by referencing the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017. "Back in 2017, during the first Trump administration, Republicans passed the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act – legislation that cut Americans’ tax rates," he noted. The new bill aims to permanently extend individual tax reliefs from this act.

The legislation also focuses on economic growth by making permanent all pro-growth reforms from 2017. "Now, with the bill we passed last week, all of the 2017 pro-growth reforms are a permanent fixture of our tax code," said Thune.

Additionally, Thune pointed out measures aimed at strengthening agriculture by expanding crop insurance coverage and raising reference prices for commodities. He stressed agriculture's significance: "Agriculture is the lifeblood of this country."

On national security, Thune mentioned investments in border security and defense enhancements such as shipbuilding and drone technology improvements. "We’re restoring our defense production capacity so that we can make more munitions here in America," he stated.

Finally, energy security was highlighted as part of ensuring a reliable energy supply for America’s future needs.

Thune concluded his remarks by expressing confidence in Republican policies: “Mr. President, I am proud that Republicans are delivering on our promises to the American people.”
