Rep. Dusty Johnson, a U.S. Congressman representing South Dakota’s at-large district since 2019, recently used his social media platform to address issues related to federal transportation funding and immigration law compliance.

On July 21, 2025, Johnson announced legislative action aimed at sanctuary cities. In a post, he stated, "I introduced a bill to prohibit any @USDOT funds from going to sanctuary cities who don’t comply with federal immigration law." The same day, he followed up with criticism of the financial practices of some local governments: "Sanctuary cities that allow anti-ICE rioters to destroy transportation infrastructure turn around and ask the federal government to foot the bill for the repairs. This behavior is beyond the pale."

Two days later, on July 23, Johnson commented on recent actions by the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) concerning truck drivers. He wrote: "The @USDOT is taking action to support our truck drivers by expanding truck parking, removing mandates for speed limiters, and cutting unnecessary red tape. I'm glad @SecDuffy is prioritizing the men and women who keep our supply chain moving."

Johnson has represented South Dakota in Congress since replacing Kristi Noem in 2019 and currently resides in Mitchell after being born in Pierre in 1976. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of South Dakota.
