U.S. Senator John Thune (R-S.D.) is accepting applications from college students for spring internships in his Washington, D.C., office and in his state offices located in Aberdeen, Rapid City, and Sioux Falls.

Interns selected for the Washington office will observe the legislative process and have access to Senate votes and hearings. Those placed in South Dakota offices will focus on constituent service and outreach activities. Both types of internships are paid positions that provide experience working with constituents, as well as opportunities to develop research and writing skills.

“Interns who are selected will receive a firsthand look at the legislative process and the day-to-day life in a congressional office,” said Thune. “In Washington, interns will have the opportunity to attend Senate votes and hearings and participate in other activities that are unique to Capitol Hill. Students who are interested in interning in Sioux Falls, Aberdeen, or Rapid City will find an equally rewarding experience with assisting staff on important constituent service requests and state outreach activities, which are critical to my work for the people of South Dakota. I encourage all college students who are interested in these opportunities to apply today.”

Interested college students can submit their applications by November 9, 2025, through https://sen.gov/O1488 or by visiting www.thune.senate.gov under the “Services” tab.

Senator Thune currently serves as Senate majority leader. He is also a member of several committees: Commerce, Science, and Transportation; Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry; and Finance.
